In 2010 FET (Future Emerging Technology) officials in FP7 stimulated a call for Flagship project proposals that would span 10 years and a Billion Euro budget. They received 21 proposals which were shortlisted to 6 of which FuturICT was ranked first. Two of these six projects will be awarded Flagship status under FP7 and Horizon2020 in early 2013.
UCC is a partner in FuturICT (www.futurict.eu) which is a visionary data science project that will deliver new research to explore, understand and manage our connected world. This will inspire new information and communication technologies (ICT) that are socially adaptive and socially interactive, supporting collective awareness. FuturICT will leverage advances in ICT, Social Sciences and Complexity Science to drive change within the intersection of science, policy and technology.
The FuturICT flagship project will align the research of hundreds of the best scientists in Europe through a 10 year, €1 billion research programme to develop new methods which integrate different scientific models, data and concepts.
As this initiative offers opportunities across a number of areas in UCC, JB McCarthy (Development Director of the Financial Services Innovation Centre in UCC) and Prof Paul Lukowicz (DFKI Computer Science) will provide a briefing on this project at 1 – 2pm on Feb 14th in West Wing room 6 (WW6).
In order to confirm your attendance please email jb.mccarthy@ucc.ie as soon as possible as space is limited and in order to plan catering for tea/coffee and sandwiches.
We look forward to seeing you there.
